Reviews from AJ Subscribers

  1. Adventure Journal is such a refreshing publication. Quality is the ethos of the magazine, and you can feel it in every article and image. Living in a big city, it’s sometimes hard to feel that sense of outdoor adventure. But AJ helps expand my world quite a bit. I recommend it to everyone. If I could give it more than 5 stars, I would.

  2. Always waiting for the next issue

  3. I’ve been a subscriber for years and have enjoyed every issue. Top notch photography and writing, with an amazing quality of print. Thank you for the good work!

  4. Long time AJ reader – especially love the quarterly journals – I save them for my own travels. Quality in every respect. 5 Stars – thanks for all you do!

  5. Excellent publication and highly recommended!

  6. A subscriber since issue one. The diverse array of photographers and writers (with limited advertising) is a highlight and each issue teaches me something new about the word “adventure.” The fantastic winter cover (photo by David Reddick ) of issue #19 pushed me over the edge to finally retire.

  7. Such a quality publication, and an absolute joy to read! It broadens my horizons and opens my mind to new ideas and understanding of our place on this planet.

  8. I have been a print subscriber for a few years now. An amazing publication. The quality of the writing, photography, and design is second to none. I just love receiving the new issue in the mail, opening it, and leafing through it first just to scan the photos and the stories, and later to read each well-written piece and enjoy how the team put the issue together.

I cannot recommend the print subscription highly enough to anyone who enjoys great writing and fantastic photos of the outdoors and outdoor life.

  9. If I could give it 6 stars, I would.

  10. I’ve been an AJ subscriber for 3 years, and always look forward to the latest issue. From the photography (!!!), to the wide array of stories, the recipes, and just plain stoke, I consider my subscription to be money very well spent.

  11. I only subscribe to one magazine, AJ. I often don’t get to read every article, but I wouldn’t consider canceling the subscription. When I need to get away from the busy world, we live in these pages take me there. Sitting by a mountain stream listening to the sounds around me and forgetting about everything else. Keep up the great work!

  12. Happy to say, I have been a subscriber since the first issue, having been addicted to Steve Casimiro’s journalism and perspective since his time at Powder. The pics that are meant to be amazing simply are. Better is the writing, which takes you places you may never go but makes you feel like you have been. Best is the way each issue reminds and encourages you to get out and do an adventure, regardless of how big or small it might be. Reading each issue cover to cover is a joy, which frequently helps to put front and center what’s important and what isn’t. It’s just a great experience that you can keep and come back to whenever you like.

  13. High quality writing and photos every time. I’ve been subscribed for 5+ years now and it has exposed to many artists and writers and adventurers I never would have come across otherwise!

  14. Great magazine! It’s the best for those who enjoy all kinds of outdoor adventures. I also really enjoy the recipes in every issue.

  15. Wonderful photography, fascinating articles. I’ve been with you since around issue 10! Keep up the good work!

  16. I’ve been a subscriber since Issue 10 and happy to keep it up. It’s a special treat when I open the mailbox to find my seasonal helping of thoughtful writing and stunning photography. We all need lifelines to sanity these days. Subscribe, you will be happy you did.

  17. AJ is the best journal I’ve ever subscribed to. I sit down and read it cover to cover as soon as I get it. Like other reviewers, I’m probably not going to replicate most of the adventures described in the journal, but I’m inspired with every edition to stretch myself a little more on my own adventures/projects. It’s a great read and very inspiring.

  18. Periodically, my wife would bring home back issues of AJ from the shop she works at. I would read them from end to end. Enjoying the wide variety of topics that covered everything from mainstream to the obscure. Always thinking, I should get a subscription but never pulled the trigger. Last year, I finally popped for my own subscription. Worth every penny!

For those that still enjoy turning a page, instead of scrolling, you need this! Photography, articles, and minimal advertising, make it one of the best publications available today.

  19. I love this publication so much. It’s meaning and value in my life and this world far exceeds the bound book it arrives in. And I love giving it as a gift, knowing the first issue that arrives for that recepient is the first introduction to their new favorite thing.

  20. In an era of declining print media with a shrinking stack of magazines on my coffee table, it was a pleasure to receive my first copy of Adventure Journal around six years ago. Perfect layout, nice heavy paper, great photos and stories – all the things you want from a magazine and nothing you don’t. I enjoy every issue and keep them all.

  21. I’ve been a subscriber for a few years and am always excited for a new issue to be delivered. I love the thought-provoking stories and beautiful photography. Keep up the good work!

  22. Must we have an opinion about everything? For f’s sake people, don’t believe me and my wonky opinions. Do a little research, read an excerpt, pick up a copy and trust your own intuitive wisdom. Having said that. . . what’s not to love? Great writing, great photography and art, limited ads—all inspiring your next adventure. I agree with fellow reviewer above Eric G, stop reading reviews and subscribe already!

  23. I am 82 years young. AJ helps keep me that way with the amazing photos, essays and reading about all the young/old men and women who live life with open arms for adventure, through travel, writing and joy for the world around them. Holding AJ in my hands, turning the pages enjoying the excitement of a new adventure with each article, life is good. Thanks AJ.

  24. I’ve been a subscriber since the first issue, and I’ll continue to subscribe as long as you publish it! I love taking the time to slow down and actually read a print journal. Such a fantastic mix of writing – educational, inspirational, whimsical, thought-provoking in stages. I look forward to some authors I’ve read for years (or decades) and others who are brand new to me. There is not another publication like this out there. I used to hoard my back issues; now I set them free in various waiting rooms hoping that others will enjoy. Thanks for your labor of love!

  25. AJ is by far my favorite magazine. Founder Stephen Casimiro encourages readers to ‘live with adventure in your life.’ Every issue is inspirational with high quality photography, great articles by writers with diverse and compelling perspectives of the outdoors. Stories about backpacking in the remote Arctic or Desert SW, skiing and mountaineering on the snowy edge. Favorite writers like Seth Kantner, Kevin Fedarko & Craig Childs bring their unique and creative viewpoints of the natural world.
I also love the Arts & Sciences section which features outdoor entrepreneurs inspiring stories.
AJ is the next best thing to actually being outdoors.

  26. I’ve subscribed to a lot of magazines, including several with an outdoor adventure theme – I just love having the paper version! AJ is the best of them. Some magazines feature great writing but have so-so graphics; some have amazing photography and writing that makes it clear no one is intended to read it. Adventure Journal hits top marks in both categories. The writing is, well, adult! It’s thoughtful, written from a variety of viewpoints, and clearly well-edited (try and find edited writing in most outdoor magazines – I dare you). And I end up paging through each issue cover-to-cover at least 10 times simply for the photographs. Put another way, it’s the only magazine I know where I don’t unconsciously try to enlarge the photos with my fingers – because they are that well composed! You won’t go wrong with an AJ subscription.
P.S. – my old issues typically cycle through a couple households, a community outdoor rec center, and then end up being collage materials in my friend’s 3rd grade classroom. Everyone loves it!

  27. A true beacon of light & hope for the adventure tribe. I know I belong here and cherish each issue. A compelling combination of beauty and prose.

I think Steve deserves enormous credit for pioneering a new financial model for print media with new relationships between readers, gear makers& content creators .

It only works if you get off your ass and subscribe thou!

  28. I’m 51 as of writing this review. One of my most precious possessions are my Adventure Journals. Every 3 months a work of art and story arrives. Best decision I made was to subscribe!

  29. I’ve been a subscriber since Issue 1, and followed the blog for several years before that. I could write a lot, but I’ll say this – this is the only magazine I still subscribe to, and I consider it a bargain for the beautiful photography, fantastic writing, and editorial effort that goes into it. I have gifted subscriptions to others in my family. I display it proudly on my coffee table, and give issues away to family and friends when there’s an article I think they’ll enjoy. I can’t think of another publication in any format that has those credentials, particularly in the last decade. I hope beyond hope that Adventure Journal out-lasts me. Keep doing the good work.

  30. AJ is a great read. I sit down and read it cover to cover every quarter. I won’t be doing a lot of the adventures I read about, but I will dream about them and then do a more tame version of my own.

  31. Been a subscriber since 2019, and have read and loved every issue since. Top notch content with an amazing quality of print. Keep up the good work

  32. No joke, this is the best magazine subscription you could ever purchase if you are at all interested in beautiful photographs, well written articles, or off-the-beaten-path stories. Having relocated to the pancake flat Midwest from living near the Rockies, Adventure Journal gives me the ability to live vicariously through all of the stories, even though my daily hike now consists of walking around my neighborhood sidewalks. This magazine is a wonderful form of escapism for me.

  33. I have every issue and enjoy reading each one cover to cover. This has become an investment in my sanity.

  34. Nothing better than when AJ arrives in the mailbox. No matter how hard I try to savor it, make it last until closer to the next issue, I end up devouring the awesome content within a day or two. Interesting topics, well written with gorgeous pictures to boot. Great book reviews and recipes.

  35. This mag is a keep’er, read from end to end’er, and an only loan to friends you know will give it back’er. SC does a great job, and content is great. Get the subscription, it one of those things that are better in hard copy.

  36. I first subscribed to AJ because the magazine published a photo of my son. A much better reward than a free mug! But I faithfully renew each year because I love the feel of the paper, I enjoy reading about new places and adventures and I lose myself in the photos. And I always check out the recipes. The cost of a subscription is well worth the joy it brings.

  37. Sharing a word of gratitude.

I’ve long found solace among the trees, peaks and mountain lakes. Absolutely love AJ and have for years.

Now my daughter of 10 (who adopted me into her life last year) is the first to open the latest issue. ❤️

Thanks for the beautiful and uplifting magazine that I’ve enjoyed for a long time and now I can share it with my daughter.

    Appreciate you.

    Dave

  38. This is a publication with soul. Each month’s arrival is like a gust of mountain air blowing into my home—an invitation to a deeper relationship with the outside world.

  39. I’ve been an Adventure Journal subscriber for about 9 years and am always impressed by the quality of the magazine’s content and the company’s values and customer service. It delivers a healthy dose of FOMO and inspiration for my next adventure and how I choose to spend my time. 10/10 would recommend.

  40. Amazing magazine. Wonderful articles, photographs, and love the camp cooking ideas! When all else has become AI slop AJ is keeping it real, thank you.

  41. I received my first AJ as a gift when staying at the Loge outside Mount Rainier NP. I was hooked and immediately subscribed. I love the stories of perseverance in the outdoors and the amazing photography alongside. I also especially enjoy the intro and recommended readings. Thank you for this wonderful magazine!

  42. Inspirational. AJ is inspirational! AJ has inspired me to keep adventuring by bike, foot and water. AJ has inspired me to create art. I’ve subscribed since issue 14 and bought several back issues. I get excited whenever I see that brown mailer in my mailbox. I eagerly rip it open and flip through the pages before I walk through my front door. It is beautifully crafted and oh so well written. It makes me happy and inspires me to do things that make my life richer. Thank you for sharing AJ with me!

  43. I’ve been a subscriber since issue #1. Everyone should have something to go analog with. AJ is one of the things that does it for me. Top notch photography and storytelling.

  44. Best magazine I have subscribed to in years and read cover to cover. Absolutely love the variety of stories and topics each issue covers. Rock on!

  45. My brother introduced me to Adventure Journal on the website, before it was a printed magazine. I instantly fell in love with the content and the philosophy. Then, upon introduction of the magazine I started my subscription from issue #1 with no plans to stop anytime soon. I have treasured each issue since. I adore the content, the writing, the printing, the feel of the paper – everything!

  46. Followed AJ before print and subscribed with the first issue.
It’s well made, it’s solid, with good quality photos, aesthetics and stories you did not think you needed.
I’m based in Europe, where postage exceeds the cost of the magazine – it’s still something worth prioritising.
Oh, and it smells good too.

  47. I’ve enjoyed reading every issue I’ve received cover to cover. I only wish I’d subscribed sooner.

  48. Thoughtful, earnest, interesting. Great diversity of stories. What more could you want?

  49. I have always been a fan of print magazines. Over the years, I watched the quality of many of the outdoor magazines I subscribed to go downhill to the point of unsubscribing. I came across Adventure Journal at Bright Side Bookshop and am so glad I did. Filled with amazing photography and well written stories, this is the magazine that outdoor enthusiasts like myself dream of. I plan to be a subscriber for life!

  50. I’ve been a subscriber since issue 1. Every issue is beautiful, insightful and meaningful. I’d sell (at least) one of my bikes before I’d cancel my AJ subscription.

  51. Such a high quality publication with consistently interesting and thought-provoking content. Casimiro’s introduction to each issue is always poignant, insightful, or just down-to-earth and on-point.

It doesn’t hurt that they look so good on my living room shelf!

  52. Captivating! The emails lured me in- stories, photography, beauty, appreciation, nature, adventure! This is not fluff, it’s good stuff, without a plethora of ads, sponsor driven content. I anticipate each issue and ration it, savoring. I always learn something new.
Thanks Adventure Journal. Keep it up. I’ve shared issues with friends, family- how could I keep it to myself.

  53. When I get AJ in the mail, it takes me back to my youth — that same excitement I felt opening a new issue of Powder or hearing that Warren Miller was coming to town. So much media today is just ten-second clips and overhyped advertising, but AJ still tells real stories about real people and real places.

  54. Adventure Journal is a wonderful publication. I enjoy the articles and recipes, I feel more adventurous just by reading the magazine.

  55. In a landscape where great Magazines are being consolidated and killed off (I am looking at you Outside), AJ stands out as one of the few Adventure-based Publications offering stunning photography, but more importantly stunning writing to accompany it. Going much deeper than a beautiful Instagram post about a remote canyon and telling the Story of that canyon… its people… its space. Please keep up the Great Work, Adventure Journal- your Loyal longtime readers love you and all of your wonderful Contributors. And, thank you.

  56. I am an early AJ adopter starting with issue #1. Every time it shows up in my mailbox I do my best to immediately sit down, crack a beer and read the whole thing cover-to-cover. I love the way it smells. I want to eat it. I love storing them for a few months or years and then rediscovering them all over again. I still make one of the recipes (Rösti) on a weekly basis for Sunday breakfast. Thank you for all your hard work to make this wonderful publication!

  57. You will not find better storytelling or honest content anywhere else. Subscribe, enjoy, and get inspired this winter

  58. Just recently renewed after wrapping up my first year subscription. More or less decided to try it on a whim based on an excerpt of an AJ article I came across somewhere online and some great photography on the AJ instagram account. Fortunately, I haven’t been disappointed! There is a variety of sports, outdoor pursuits, and adventure-adjacent material covered in each issue; the photography is top notch; the writing is consistently high quality and engaging; and the minimal use of ads is welcome.

  59. Always makes me happy when it shows up in the mail.

  60. It’s our household’s favorite magazine to find in the mailbox. The pictures, stories, book recommendations and recipes are all consistently awesome. Enjoy!

  61. I’ve been a subscriber for about five years and every single issue has been a stunner. The whole family looks forward to getting the new AJ in the mail!

  62. I LOVE AJ! My wife got me a subscription as a gift several years ago. I loved it so much I got my friend a subscription(which I still pay for). We look forward to every issue, and we’re never disappointed. Hands down best print magazine. Great stories, great quality!

  63. I feel more alive just looking at the covers!
Great journalism and photography takes us places we can’t get to in our daily lives.

  64. Simply the best magazine out there. My only complaint is I wish it came more often.

  65. I look forward to each new issue, and am excited when I find it in my mailbox or the kitchen table. When I have a moment, I’ll flip slowly through the issue, admire the photos and decide which articles I’ll read first. Ultimately, I’ll read them all. Often, the one I save for last, the one I was originally least excited about, will surprise me with insights from an unfamiliar perspective. Long live long-form journalism. Keep up the good work!

  66. Cover-to-cover, the best adventure magazine around.

  67. I may never see the places or do the things you cover so well but I can dream, right? It’s a beautifully crafted magazine and it shows your commitment to it and, of course adventure!

  68. As a retired art director and print buyer I can attest your presentation is excellent. As for the content, it makes me want to strap on my woodies, or pull on the oars, and just get out there.

  69. Well worth it – I leisurely read each issue cover to cover

  70. I look forward to getting every new issue. The stories are in depth enough that they fill the time between quarterly drops perfectly. Love the coverage!

  71. I eagerly look forward to every new edition of AJ. It’s actually the only thing these days that I read fully cover to cover ( always on the go and listen to lots of books/podcasts).

The photography was the thing that initially lured me in, but I appreciate all of the stories. I’ve been a subscriber for 3 years.

  72. I really adore AJ. Been a subscriber since 23. The writing is fantastic, I read every word in them. The stories are obviously about pursuits and places, but they are also about people, really interesting people. I think it takes really good writers to weave human experience into a story about an adventure. And its not pro athletes or celebrity outdoors people, its normal people doing cool things. Because of this, I connect with stories, even about activities I have not relationship with. I also appreciate how some Canadian content finds it way in there.

The physical magazine is beautiful. My collection is front and center on my bookshelf. I pull them out and show friends specific stories. There is something special about writing (and photos) that only exist in print, and that you physically share with somebody.

  73. Exceptional blend of humorous, heartfelt, and inspirational storytelling across a variety of outdoor and adventurous content. Adventure Journal stands alone for me in its ability to entertain, educate, and inspire, without being preachy or prescriptive. Keep up the great work!

  74. Literally the only physical magazine I subscribe to. Always something surprising, fascinating, inspiring. And it’s just plain beautiful.

  75. Over the years, I’ve gone from more than 20 magazine subscriptions to one. Adventure Journal feels as if it is written just for me. Of course it isn’t, but I savor every page. Sometimes read articles a couple of times. I save every copy. Honest journalism is rare. Storytelling is rare. Each issue is a work of love and art.

  76. Say all you want about the quality of the magazine, the diverse voices representing the outdoors, even the amazing recipes… the magazine is amazing but it’s Steve that is the reason I subscribe. Steve has been producing this kind of content for decades. This magazine is the culmination of years of outdoor experience and of his being unrestrained by corporate machinations. You can feel that this is a labor of love and he is trying to capture something tangible that we have lost. If you appreciate the outdoors on a deeper level then just gear reviews and arbitrary top 10 mountain towns lists, subscribe to this magazine! 10/10

  77. Subscriber since the beginning. The timing was excellent as I was disenchanted with the direction another similar publication was headed and another one I had been a long time subscriber of was shutting down print. Took a chance on a 1 year initial subscription and have renewed every year. High quality print and quality. Collectable references of stories, recipes, book reviews and its easy to integrate into my lifestyle. Plus, the subscriber rate has remained the same for me since I started, also a value add. Grateful for AJ. Subscribe, you won’t be disappointed.

  78. I’ve been receiving the Journal for 2 plus years and my palm starts to itch when the next edition is about a week away from landing in the mailbox. I’m an International subscriber, and I’m always a little nervous about “my magazine” getting lost, or delayed due to a postal strike, or that AJ will stop international subscriptions (please don’t).

The stories are varied, the writing is great and accessible and each edition feels like a coffee-table worthy piece.

  79. Great publication. I look forward to it every quarter. I’ve been a subscriber since number 2 and often recommend it to others – though rarely share mine ; )

  80. I look forward to every issue and like to sit down with a drink and read it cover to cover. My adventures have to fit in around work and family so reading about others’ amazing journeys is both panacea and bucket list building.

  81. Refreshing “time out” with some “out time”, every quarter. Great writing, stories, and wisdom… recipes are pretty good too. Excellent work by the whole AJ team.

  82. Issue one subscriber here. Best adventure publication ever. Always look forward to whatever Steve has put together next. Highly recommended.

  83. Long-time subscriber. The variety of articles, always fresh and frequently expanding my own horizons; the excellent reviews; the fabulous photography. Please keep rolling the presses!

  84. AJ is a coffee table book masquerading as a quarterly journal. Each collection feels curated for the season it represents. The magazine creates a dialogue for the outdoors community that has been decimated by the attention-economy environment. I’ll read it Sunday mornings, very slowly, and soak in the pages. It’s a great way to help me reset my energies and remember why being human requires active participation. Big thanks to the editorial staff for holding the line when it’s easier to go with the flow.

  85. Love the magazine! With everything going to digital content these days, I still love holding a real paper journal and reading especially the long format articles. I started subscribing because another outdoor magazine I have loved since I was a teen seems to be changing focus. The photography is also amazing

  86. I love everything about this magazine, though I think calling it that sells it short. It’s more a wonderful journal with pictures. I admire your ethos, the articles are always unique and a welcome surprise. The historical badass is such a nice feature to see how we’ve ‘evolved’ in the adventure/outdoor space. Keep up the amazing work!

  87. Truly a beautiful and inspiring publication. So fortunate to have this option available. Beyond inspiration, it is the only place I trust and go for reviews. I’ve bought nearly everything recommended and everything has lived up. Keep it going! Offer subscribers more opportunities to buy schwag!

  88. Subscriber from the beginning. I always look forward to receiving AJ and settling in for a long reading session. Then I pass it on to a friend so that they can share in the enjoyment,

  89. Hitting the two year mark in my subscription and was able to get my hands on bunch of old issues as well. Love the magazine and to intentionally decide to be offline and spend my time with a high quality magazine instead. As a Dutch reader I’m delighted as well that the stories don’t only focus on the US, but on outdoor adventures world wide. We just moved house and had to seriously reconsider all of our expenses; and can tell you that AJ won over a certain popular streaming service with ease (for me, don’t ask the children)!

  90. I love AJ! Great articles and amazing photography. Love reading about places I’ve been, which bring back great memories, and exciting to read about new adventures to add to the ever growing list! It focuses on real journalism and fantastic writing and is void of listicles and cheap gear reviews as excuses for quality content!

  91. One of the best print publications in the world! Totally enjoy the writing, images and format. Subscribe, please. Printed storytelling is the best. And the AJ is at the top of the heap! Thank you!

  92. This journal is beautiful. It is a high quality publication and provides great articles and photographs that inspire me year round. It is a treasure.

  93. Love it.
Long time subscriber, sometimes I read them in one go, sometimes I take small bites.
It’s always worth it, on the coffee table or on the shelf it also looks amazing due to the quality of the printing and the thoughtful choice of photography.

  94. The Adventure Journal! What can I say? Beautifully crafted. Thoughtful writing. Striking nature photography from all parts of the world. Exploration without sensationalism. Deeply inspiring. Talk about a coffee table conversation starter. It is funny watching a guest flip through an Adventure Journal, and ask me, “Where did you find this magazine?” Print is not dead!

  95. I am a printer! and I love the feel of paper so it was natural for me to give AJ a shot and see what it is all about. What I found out is the articles are engaging so now I can enjoy a great read in a great format with the added deliciousness of that faint smell of ink.

Keep up the great work and keep on supporting great print!

  96. Fascinating stories. Stunning photography. Thoughtful writing. Even the paper on this thing is pure class (seriously, holding it feels so sturdy and comforting and deliberate).

  97. I always look forward to each new edition’s arrival! As a former mountain town inhabitant and current Midwestern adventurer, it’s a connection to my mountain self that I really treasure!

  98. Grateful something like this still exists in a screen-driven world. Gorgeous photography, well-written articles, a beautifully crafted magazine. Thank you!

  99. Hands down the best outdoor adventure publication available. Exquisite photos and great writing. I am a lazy reader, just headlines and the 1st paragraph. That assumes I couldn’t find a video that is on the topic. I read this magazine cover to cover! Well worth the subscription.

  100. I’ve been a subscriber since 2016. It is my favorite magazine! It is consistently high quality, and I eagerly look forward to receiving it every quarter.

  101. I’m a mountain biker at heart, but love the range of writing topics and especially the magnificent photography. Best subscription out there!

  102. Fantastic magazine and journal. I look forward to every issue and it is only one of a few magazines I subscribe to. Great content and pictures, and the paper feel is something you can’t get on a screen. The long form stories, recipes, book reviews and historical stories are all nicely put together by Steve Casimiro. The issues are worth reading and re-reading, and It makes a great gift subscription as well. Limited advertising by key partners is a plus — that information is informative in terms of sparking interest in gear purchasing, but the journal is not awash in advertising debris. Well done!

  103. So good. I don’t know how they can pull it off but every issue is fascinating. Every cover makes me either smile or go “wow”. Every issue has a story I need to share with someone I know.

  104. Adventure Journal is one of my favorite publications. The writing is excellent, in-depth, and immersive. As it can be a challenge to buy the magazine off the rack, a subscription is the best way to not miss an issue.

  105. Riveting – inspiring – hilarious. Just some of the things that run through my mind reading AJ. Each story is just the right length to make it easier to fulfill my annual resolution to “read more.” And I’ve even found a recipe or two that’s made its way into the rotation.

Be warned: Here’s what you *don’t* get from AJ.
    – Lots of ads.
    – An Annual Gear Guide telling you how outdated and obsolete your stuff is.
    – Getaway guides telling you where to book your next visit to nature.

If you’re like me, the magazines you probably grew up with (RIP Powder, Bike) went under. And let’s be honest, by the end… they weren’t great. AJ gets you back to what those once were. Great stories. Great photos. And the kind of kick in the butt that makes me want to go find something cool to do in my own little pocket of the world.

  106. I’ve been a subscriber for a few years and have loved every print! The storytelling is always talented, unique, and inspiring – a very welcome outlier in an industry typically filled with biased gear reviews and top-10 lists. Can’t wait for the next edition!

  107. AJ is a necessary staple in our home. Quality storytelling and inspiring moments are delivered in a thoughtfully produced container by a true gem of our world. AJ represents the spirit I hope we all long to cultivate in ourselves and our neighbors. AJ forever.

  108. I like reading AJ. Whether it’s the books the recommend or the long and short articles I can peruse. It just feels right!

  109. I devour each & every page of every issue. Amazing pictures to accompany great eclectic print. I try to consume each magazine as slowly as possible so that the wait for the next one isn’t quite as long.

  110. Inspirational. AJ’s articles and photograph are a great way to keep your imagination alive when you can’t actually be in the field.

  111. Totally awesome publication and one of the few that I take a deep dive into as soon as it arrives. Pretty much every issue inspires me to get out there and do something more or different, or just think about things in another light. I love that even though I don’t engage in every sport profiled, I get to engage with them at least vicariously. And truly, how many publications do you hang on to long after you have read them just because you know you want to revisit them again?!

  112. Inspirational. AJ’s articles and photography are a great way to keep your imagination alive when you can’t actually be out in the field.

  113. Just sign up. You won’t regret it.

  114. I’ve been a subscriber since Issue 3. I look forward to receiving it every quarter and cannot recommend it enough. Excellent and diverse writing and imagery. Superb quality (feels more like a book and less like a magazine). Well worth it.

  115. Awesome magazine. Varied topics. Beautiful photography and design on high quality paper that is a pleasure to read. Just the book reviews alone have expanded my library and list of authors enormously.

  116. Still, after 5 years of subscribing, I love getting this in the mail. The paper, the design, the articles, the recipes…. and I get to turn the pages by hand. There’s a relishing quality to my experience with AJ; I make special time to sit, slow down, and enjoy the articles in a visceral way that online just can’t touch.

Each issue is special in its own way, but it’s consistently high quality, engaging content. Finishing the last article is always met with anticipation for the next issue.

AJ reminds me why I fell in love with nature and adventure in the first place.

  117. Fantastic content. First thing I do each issue is read Stephen’s Intro -always a terrific stage setter. The articles, book reviews and recipes are great. I spend a lot of time unsubscribing to subscriptions of every kind. One thing that is never under consideration is my AJ Subscription. Get it. Get every back issue you can. Truly the best money I spend all year.

  118. Curling up on the couch on a Sunday with a cup of coffee and the latest issue of AJ has been my favorite rituals for three years. The feelings of awe, curiosity or whim from each page is exactly why I love the outdoors. It’s an adventure, it’s also meditative and something to be savored.

  119. IMO AJ has stellar photography and well written stories. I enjoy the book recommendations and the very interesting historical and scientifically based stories. I have also enjoyed the digital newsletter/site. For the most part, the stories are enjoyed. However, most adventures described are far from the reach of the everyday gal and guy. I cannot relate to people taking helicopters out to a glacier in South America or to the CEO who’s asked about their ‘work/life’ balance (honestly, that article is where AJ lost me), or the ‘beach-shacks’ that no one except a CEO or multimillionaire could afford. Give me more stories about the guy building a raft to take on Lake Champlain or camping with your kids or how to bring adventure to everyday. Perhaps, I’m just not the right demographic.

  120. Worth every penny of the subscription fee. I eagerly look forward to these every quarter and immediately settle in for a good read.

  121. Let me start that I have issue #1. I was one of the very early adopters. The mission of AJ over the years has been editorially consistent and stories are gorgeous.

Steve and the team at AJ have become an important voice in the outdoor community.

The universe is better with that team.

Lastly a subscription is my go-to gift.

    Cheers

  122. One of THE most fantastic subscriptions I have. So thoughtfully curated and worth every penny and minute of your time.
Very cool gift idea as well!

  123. “Shut up and take my money.” was my response to Adventure Journal starting a print mag. Print creates memories in your head and heart in a way digital never can.
Adventure Journal arriving in my mailbox is always the highlight of the month. Like National Geographic arriving when I was a kid. Thanks to the internet “Guess the cover” isn’t as fun but the magazine never disappoints. No matter what you’re into, there’s always something you’ll like. Supporting independent magazines makes you feel good as well. Get on it! Subscribe!

  124. I consider AJ more than just a magazine–each issue is a collectible, a work of art, an immersive escape, an education, and a demonstration of thoughtful curation.

  125. My husband and I have been subscribers since the beginning and each quarter we eagerly anticipate the new journal. We each read every article, enjoy discussing them with each other, and often recount things we learned to family and friends. In a world that continues to push us online, we love sitting with beautiful stories and art and the conversation each issue invites. Thank you AJ!

  126. I guess gray stars mean 5 stars. Must be an AJ thing…

Not sure how long ago my wife gave me an AJ subscription
but reading routine is always the same. Start with articles that really interest me and put it aside. Some time later I pick it up to read remaining articles “that really interest me.” Must be the writing.

  127. The best subscription I have. Each magazine has well-written and compelling stories that are timeless. Plus a great camping recipe or two in each one!

  128. if you value independent high quality writing then Adventure Journal is a must. Great articles about all kinds of interesting subjects that touches on adventure and the outdoors. Can’t recommend it highly enough!

  129. AJ is amazing for those that love the outdoors! It has the best articles and pictures and I look forward to each issue. Top notch customer service as well!

  130. Great magazine that covers numerous true adventure topics and not, thank goodness, a bunch of “notice me ! “ articles from posers who grew up coddled in a participation trophy environment. I look forward to every issue.

  131. Christmas comes every three months when the new issue of AJ arrives. Been subscribed since issue #15, and I love sharing them with friends after I finish reading. They look great on a coffee table or book shelf but are put to better use in the hands of someone new!

  132. I’ve been reading AJ online and in print for years. I love the AJ mission and boy, do they deliver. Fantastic stories, beautiful imagery, in an incredibly designed layout. I’m spoiled for other magazines, where half the pages are ads. I try to savor every single page as slowly as I can, and still reach the end far too quickly.

I get excited like a kid on Christmas when I see that envelope show up at my house. The fact that its quarterly also means I’m not expecting it, which just adds to the delight.

AJ is well worth the price of admission. You won’t regret it.

  133. Every edition I receive is confirmation of how nice it is to have something physical to hold and read while the stories inside are simply amazing. Fantastic writing, engaging stories with spectacular photos to match. Every edition feels like a collectors item and my only regret is that there aren’t more issues a year!

  135. Absolutely love the Adventure Journal. Great stories/writers and incredible pictures. I look forward to every issue

  136. It’s always a race in my family to see who gets to open the magazine first. It usually disappears with my daughter (age 14) first. I will find it by her bedside reading lamp. Then my son will have it on his desk. I might get to grab it about a week or so later. I think we all enjoy dreaming of our next adventure. The writing is always excellent. It is one of those rare magazines I enjoy reading from cover to cover. And the photography accompanying the articles is amazing. Thank you and keep it up!

  137. A treasure for the outdoor community. My must read and the only magazine I keep for longevity.

  138. They do good with this article and picture stuff….

  139. Adventure Journal is a five-star magazine that I love because I really enjoy being outdoors. The pictures are amazing, and the stories talk about big trips and cool ways to take care of nature in great detail. I always look forward to getting a new issue, as it gives me the best ideas for my own next big adventure.

  140. It’s like collecting art. A steal at twice the price.

  141. I can’t tell you how much I love receiving my Adventure Journals. They get proudly displayed in the coffee table for a year before going into the library. They are visually arresting and the perfect evening read!

  142. We are long time subscribers and love this magazine. We look forward to every issue, and give subscriptions as gifts to our like-minded friends and family!

  143. I love the Adventure Journal! I am a long time subscriber and have given gift subscriptions to others. The articles and photography are beautiful and thought provoking. I love getting the journal in the mail, it feels good in my hands and even smells good (love that fresh ink smell!).

  144. I have been a subscriber since Issue #13 (Summer 2019).
I look forward to getting this great print publication in the mail every quarter.
Great quality, content, and photos – not to mention the recipes!

  145. Been receiving the print magazine from the start. I look forward to every issue.
    Highly recommended!

  146. Beautiful format. Original fresh content. Always a pleasure to receive and dig into. I hate letting them go… all my back issues are either saved or passed forward to a friend to savor.

  147. Love AJ!

I look forward to getting it each quarter and often have the whole thing read in a few days!!

  148. Love the Journal. I’ve been a long time subscriber. Colin Archer, Nansen’s naval architect designed the Fram ship used also by Ronald Amundsen and other mariners. He’s an interesting fellow.

  149. You had me at the Title: “Adventure Journal”!….. and I was fully in! I’m on my third year as a subscriber, and within those few years, The Journal has evolved into something special. My life adventure was gifted through my parents who broke their familys norms and elected on a future less traveled. My Sister and I experienced new roads with few yield signs. To this day, the opening of those roads less traveled, still exists, and are featured in AJ. It’s my kind of Journal. With Aloha. Pete

  150. Day one subscriber here and I’m thrilled to say the quality has remained incredible. This is the kind of magazine every lover of the outdoors can enjoy!

  151. Awesome publication! Love the stories, photography, print quality, and content!

  152. 31 First time buy; pretty cool stuff.

  153. Adventure Journal Newbie Hello Adventure Journal! Thank you for your publication. The writing, research, and photography can bring anyone to appreciate the outdoors. My home state is Baton Rouge, LA, and even if I do not have many adventures in my backyard, this magazine has helped to reinvigorate that spirit. I bought number 32, and after I read it in one sitting I decided to subscribe. Can not wait for the next issue.

  154. Thank you and love your work. Adventure Journal brings me closer to the passion I have for the outdoors and adventure recreation.

  155. Amazing Quality! I just got my first issue (Issue 32) after thinking about it for a while, but now that I have it I am so glad. The quality is amazing. The photos are top notch, but the thing I love most is the long form writing. Overall it is a great addition to my magazine collection. Keep it up, you have something great here!

  156. awsome magazine

  157. My friend love it!

  158. I enjoy every page…. I typically read adventure books, but I have enjoyed adding AJ to the mix. It is well written, looks pretty, smells good, and feels substantial just holding it. The way literature should be. Keep it up!

  159. A Gateway to Adventure I eagerly anticipate each Adventure Journal issue. The moments, notes, and fragments are captivating, offering a delightful peek into the outdoor world. The recommended readings have led me to some fantastic books, keeping my interest alive. The Swedish Rosti recipe from quite a few issues was a delightful surprise, adding a flavorful twist to my adventures outdoors and at home. Keep up the excellent work, Adventure Journal! Looking forward to more exciting issues.

  160. Loved it. Way better than some other “outdoor” magazines.

  161. Best. Subscription. Ever. Literally the only magazine I read cover to cover. Stories are rad- but the letter from the editor is my personal fav every issue. Best reusable bday gift for the adventurous soul!

  162. Cheerfully replaced an issue lost in the mail I moved to a new address and missed an issue of AJ. For the reasonable price of shipping they quickly sent a replacement and I had a new copy in a few days.

  163. Reship refunded AJ magazine

  164. Love it!!! Loved every issue since subscribing a few years back!!

  165. AJ #28 So far awesome, and many thanks for shipping me that back issue..Beth did a great job ( I hope I remembered the name correctly) of running that to ground. I haven’t finished Kelly’s article yet, but I love all his stuff and I love the recipes and the O. Island architecture article!! wonderful work! Charlie

  166. Oldschool The magic of holding in your hands, a solid piece of adventure. One, where you slowly turn the pages with unbridled anticipation to read that final paragraph. One, where the aroma of a printed page invokes memories from long ago. One, where you are transported to magical, mysterious destinations, and even places in your own backyard. As my sunsets come quicker and my days grow shorter, I can look back on my past issues and they come alive again as if for the first time. My only regret is that as soon as my copy hits the front porch, I devour it in one sitting. Alas, short-term memory comes in handy at this point because I have 29 other issues to devour.

  167. The best of the best So look forward to getting the Adventure Journal. Incredible stories. The recipe section rocks. A world class magazine that should be read by all .

  168. Late to the party My first issue was #21 and I’ve read and still treasure that and all since. This is hands down the best publication that I’ve ever subscribed too. Keep up the good work. P.S The emails are great too, a little bump while waiting for the next edition.

  169. Adventure Journal Subscription

  170. Best Adventure Publication Anywhere I subscribed as soon as I heard this was coming out, and I haven’t looked back. I cherish every issue. It’s a go-to Christmas gift. It’s so good, I patronize advertisers simply because they advertise here; of course, their products are excellent, which is what you’d expect. Great stories, great phots, great recipes. How can you beat that!

  171. The highlight of the quarter Adventure Journal consistently delivers thoughtful, well-crafted stories and reflections about people who appreciate and respect and enjoy the outdoors. I love the variety of perspectives and writing and artistic styles presented and regularly leave my time spent with the magazine inspired to continue shaping and sharing my own story as I also spend time cherishing the outdoors. A high caliber publication and one of my favorite gifts to give.

  172. Diverse Read Great write ups on all different types of adventure. Great to read on experiences from a wide variety of perspectives keeping it interesting!
I did recently receive two copies, so I shared one! Bonus

  173. Great magazine. I wish I never ended the subscription a few years ago. I was a subscriber from issue 1 and continued for a few years until the articles just didn’t resonate with me anymore. I continued to keep tabs via apple news on the content and recently resubscribed and purchased back issues because it seems the content has now become exactly what I have been looking for.

  174. Why is there only seven reviews on here? I’ve subscribed for a year now and can’t wait for the second. If you love the outdoors and appreciate high quality stories, photography and material this was made for you and you won’t be disappointed. (A side note, I really appreciate the few vegetarian camping recipes in every issue!)

  175. Wide variety of adventures and inspiration Wide variety of adventures and inspiration

  176. The best companion for those who live and love adventure Can’t say enough about AJ. It’s a magazine produced by my tribe and for my tribe. Beautifully designed. Thoughtfully written. Full of surprise. And to have something in printed form, where I can unplug from a screen and drift away to a far off place. Can’t think of a better place to put my money.

  177. Best Itom I giving 5 star rating this product and recommend my friends.

  178. Best Magazine Around Seriously. I joined for AJ Issue #18 onward and my only regret is not having the first 17 issues.

  179. Stop reading reviews. Read AJ instead! Just subscribe already! Its great, you won’t regret it!
