Always waiting for the next issue

Long time AJ reader – especially love the quarterly journals – I save them for my own travels. Quality in every respect. 5 Stars – thanks for all you do!

A subscriber since issue one. The diverse array of photographers and writers (with limited advertising) is a highlight and each issue teaches me something new about the word “adventure.” The fantastic winter cover (photo by David Reddick ) of issue #19 pushed me over the edge to finally retire.

I have been a print subscriber for a few years now. An amazing publication. The quality of the writing, photography, and design is second to none. I just love receiving the new issue in the mail, opening it, and leafing through it first just to scan the photos and the stories, and later to read each well-written piece and enjoy how the team put the issue together.

I cannot recommend the print subscription highly enough to anyone who enjoys great writing and fantastic photos of the outdoors and outdoor life.

I’ve been an AJ subscriber for 3 years, and always look forward to the latest issue. From the photography (!!!), to the wide array of stories, the recipes, and just plain stoke, I consider my subscription to be money very well spent.

Happy to say, I have been a subscriber since the first issue, having been addicted to Steve Casimiro’s journalism and perspective since his time at Powder. The pics that are meant to be amazing simply are. Better is the writing, which takes you places you may never go but makes you feel like you have been. Best is the way each issue reminds and encourages you to get out and do an adventure, regardless of how big or small it might be. Reading each issue cover to cover is a joy, which frequently helps to put front and center what’s important and what isn’t. It’s just a great experience that you can keep and come back to whenever you like.

Great magazine! It’s the best for those who enjoy all kinds of outdoor adventures. I also really enjoy the recipes in every issue.

I’ve been a subscriber since Issue 10 and happy to keep it up. It’s a special treat when I open the mailbox to find my seasonal helping of thoughtful writing and stunning photography. We all need lifelines to sanity these days. Subscribe, you will be happy you did.

Periodically, my wife would bring home back issues of AJ from the shop she works at. I would read them from end to end. Enjoying the wide variety of topics that covered everything from mainstream to the obscure. Always thinking, I should get a subscription but never pulled the trigger. Last year, I finally popped for my own subscription. Worth every penny!

For those that still enjoy turning a page, instead of scrolling, you need this! Photography, articles, and minimal advertising, make it one of the best publications available today.

In an era of declining print media with a shrinking stack of magazines on my coffee table, it was a pleasure to receive my first copy of Adventure Journal around six years ago. Perfect layout, nice heavy paper, great photos and stories – all the things you want from a magazine and nothing you don’t. I enjoy every issue and keep them all.

Must we have an opinion about everything? For f’s sake people, don’t believe me and my wonky opinions. Do a little research, read an excerpt, pick up a copy and trust your own intuitive wisdom. Having said that. . . what’s not to love? Great writing, great photography and art, limited ads—all inspiring your next adventure. I agree with fellow reviewer above Eric G, stop reading reviews and subscribe already!

I’ve been a subscriber since the first issue, and I’ll continue to subscribe as long as you publish it! I love taking the time to slow down and actually read a print journal. Such a fantastic mix of writing – educational, inspirational, whimsical, thought-provoking in stages. I look forward to some authors I’ve read for years (or decades) and others who are brand new to me. There is not another publication like this out there. I used to hoard my back issues; now I set them free in various waiting rooms hoping that others will enjoy. Thanks for your labor of love!

I’ve subscribed to a lot of magazines, including several with an outdoor adventure theme – I just love having the paper version! AJ is the best of them. Some magazines feature great writing but have so-so graphics; some have amazing photography and writing that makes it clear no one is intended to read it. Adventure Journal hits top marks in both categories. The writing is, well, adult! It’s thoughtful, written from a variety of viewpoints, and clearly well-edited (try and find edited writing in most outdoor magazines – I dare you). And I end up paging through each issue cover-to-cover at least 10 times simply for the photographs. Put another way, it’s the only magazine I know where I don’t unconsciously try to enlarge the photos with my fingers – because they are that well composed! You won’t go wrong with an AJ subscription.
P.S. – my old issues typically cycle through a couple households, a community outdoor rec center, and then end up being collage materials in my friend’s 3rd grade classroom. Everyone loves it!

I’m 51 as of writing this review. One of my most precious possessions are my Adventure Journals. Every 3 months a work of art and story arrives. Best decision I made was to subscribe!

AJ is a great read. I sit down and read it cover to cover every quarter. I won’t be doing a lot of the adventures I read about, but I will dream about them and then do a more tame version of my own.

No joke, this is the best magazine subscription you could ever purchase if you are at all interested in beautiful photographs, well written articles, or off-the-beaten-path stories. Having relocated to the pancake flat Midwest from living near the Rockies, Adventure Journal gives me the ability to live vicariously through all of the stories, even though my daily hike now consists of walking around my neighborhood sidewalks. This magazine is a wonderful form of escapism for me.

Nothing better than when AJ arrives in the mailbox. No matter how hard I try to savor it, make it last until closer to the next issue, I end up devouring the awesome content within a day or two. Interesting topics, well written with gorgeous pictures to boot. Great book reviews and recipes.

I first subscribed to AJ because the magazine published a photo of my son. A much better reward than a free mug! But I faithfully renew each year because I love the feel of the paper, I enjoy reading about new places and adventures and I lose myself in the photos. And I always check out the recipes. The cost of a subscription is well worth the joy it brings.

This is a publication with soul. Each month’s arrival is like a gust of mountain air blowing into my home—an invitation to a deeper relationship with the outside world.

Inspirational. AJ is inspirational! AJ has inspired me to keep adventuring by bike, foot and water. AJ has inspired me to create art. I’ve subscribed since issue 14 and bought several back issues. I get excited whenever I see that brown mailer in my mailbox. I eagerly rip it open and flip through the pages before I walk through my front door. It is beautifully crafted and oh so well written. It makes me happy and inspires me to do things that make my life richer. Thank you for sharing AJ with me!

It’s well made, it’s solid, with good quality photos, aesthetics and stories you did not think you needed.
I’m based in Europe, where postage exceeds the cost of the magazine – it’s still something worth prioritising.

Captivating! The emails lured me in- stories, photography, beauty, appreciation, nature, adventure! This is not fluff, it’s good stuff, without a plethora of ads, sponsor driven content. I anticipate each issue and ration it, savoring. I always learn something new.

Adventure Journal is a wonderful publication. I enjoy the articles and recipes, I feel more adventurous just by reading the magazine.

I am an early AJ adopter starting with issue #1. Every time it shows up in my mailbox I do my best to immediately sit down, crack a beer and read the whole thing cover-to-cover. I love the way it smells. I want to eat it. I love storing them for a few months or years and then rediscovering them all over again. I still make one of the recipes (Rösti) on a weekly basis for Sunday breakfast. Thank you for all your hard work to make this wonderful publication!

Just recently renewed after wrapping up my first year subscription. More or less decided to try it on a whim based on an excerpt of an AJ article I came across somewhere online and some great photography on the AJ instagram account. Fortunately, I haven’t been disappointed! There is a variety of sports, outdoor pursuits, and adventure-adjacent material covered in each issue; the photography is top notch; the writing is consistently high quality and engaging; and the minimal use of ads is welcome.

It’s our household’s favorite magazine to find in the mailbox. The pictures, stories, book recommendations and recipes are all consistently awesome. Enjoy!

As a retired art director and print buyer I can attest your presentation is excellent. As for the content, it makes me want to strap on my woodies, or pull on the oars, and just get out there.

I really adore AJ. Been a subscriber since 23. The writing is fantastic, I read every word in them. The stories are obviously about pursuits and places, but they are also about people, really interesting people. I think it takes really good writers to weave human experience into a story about an adventure. And its not pro athletes or celebrity outdoors people, its normal people doing cool things. Because of this, I connect with stories, even about activities I have not relationship with. I also appreciate how some Canadian content finds it way in there.

The physical magazine is beautiful. My collection is front and center on my bookshelf. I pull them out and show friends specific stories. There is something special about writing (and photos) that only exist in print, and that you physically share with somebody.

Literally the only physical magazine I subscribe to. Always something surprising, fascinating, inspiring. And it’s just plain beautiful.

Say all you want about the quality of the magazine, the diverse voices representing the outdoors, even the amazing recipes… the magazine is amazing but it’s Steve that is the reason I subscribe. Steve has been producing this kind of content for decades. This magazine is the culmination of years of outdoor experience and of his being unrestrained by corporate machinations. You can feel that this is a labor of love and he is trying to capture something tangible that we have lost. If you appreciate the outdoors on a deeper level then just gear reviews and arbitrary top 10 mountain towns lists, subscribe to this magazine! 10/10

I’ve been receiving the Journal for 2 plus years and my palm starts to itch when the next edition is about a week away from landing in the mailbox. I’m an International subscriber, and I’m always a little nervous about “my magazine” getting lost, or delayed due to a postal strike, or that AJ will stop international subscriptions (please don’t).

The stories are varied, the writing is great and accessible and each edition feels like a coffee-table worthy piece.

I look forward to every issue and like to sit down with a drink and read it cover to cover. My adventures have to fit in around work and family so reading about others’ amazing journeys is both panacea and bucket list building.

AJ is a coffee table book masquerading as a quarterly journal. Each collection feels curated for the season it represents. The magazine creates a dialogue for the outdoors community that has been decimated by the attention-economy environment. I’ll read it Sunday mornings, very slowly, and soak in the pages. It’s a great way to help me reset my energies and remember why being human requires active participation. Big thanks to the editorial staff for holding the line when it’s easier to go with the flow.

I love everything about this magazine, though I think calling it that sells it short. It’s more a wonderful journal with pictures. I admire your ethos, the articles are always unique and a welcome surprise. The historical badass is such a nice feature to see how we’ve ‘evolved’ in the adventure/outdoor space. The Adventure Journal! What can I say? Beautifully crafted. Thoughtful writing. Striking nature photography from all parts of the world. Exploration without sensationalism. Deeply inspiring. Talk about a coffee table conversation starter. It is funny watching a guest flip through an Adventure Journal, and ask me, “Where did you find this magazine?” Print is not dead!

Fantastic magazine and journal. I look forward to every issue and it is only one of a few magazines I subscribe to. Great content and pictures, and the paper feel is something you can’t get on a screen. The long form stories, recipes, book reviews and historical stories are all nicely put together by Steve Casimiro. The issues are worth reading and re-reading, and It makes a great gift subscription as well. Limited advertising by key partners is a plus — that information is informative in terms of sparking interest in gear purchasing, but the journal is not awash in advertising debris. Well done!

Adventure Journal is one of my favorite publications. The writing is excellent, in-depth, and immersive. As it can be a challenge to buy the magazine off the rack, a subscription is the best way to not miss an issue.

I’ve been a subscriber since Issue 3. I look forward to receiving it every quarter and cannot recommend it enough. Excellent and diverse writing and imagery. Superb quality (feels more like a book and less like a magazine). Well worth it.

Still, after 5 years of subscribing, I love getting this in the mail. The paper, the design, the articles, the recipes…. and I get to turn the pages by hand. There’s a relishing quality to my experience with AJ; I make special time to sit, slow down, and enjoy the articles in a visceral way that online just can’t touch.

Each issue is special in its own way, but it’s consistently high quality, engaging content. Finishing the last article is always met with anticipation for the next issue.

AJ reminds me why I fell in love with nature and adventure in the first place.

Curling up on the couch on a Sunday with a cup of coffee and the latest issue of AJ has been my favorite rituals for three years. The feelings of awe, curiosity or whim from each page is exactly why I love the outdoors. It’s an adventure, it’s also meditative and something to be savored.

Worth every penny of the subscription fee. I eagerly look forward to these every quarter and immediately settle in for a good read.

Not sure how long ago my wife gave me an AJ subscription
but reading routine is always the same. Start with articles that really interest me and put it aside. Some time later I pick it up to read remaining articles “that really interest me.” Must be the writing.

if you value independent high quality writing then Adventure Journal is a must. Great articles about all kinds of interesting subjects that touches on adventure and the outdoors. Can’t recommend it highly enough!

Great magazine that covers numerous true adventure topics and not, thank goodness, a bunch of “notice me ! “ articles from posers who grew up coddled in a participation trophy environment. I look forward to every issue.

It’s always a race in my family to see who gets to open the magazine first. It usually disappears with my daughter (age 14) first. I will find it by her bedside reading lamp. Then my son will have it on his desk. I might get to grab it about a week or so later. I think we all enjoy dreaming of our next adventure. The writing is always excellent. It is one of those rare magazines I enjoy reading from cover to cover. And the photography accompanying the articles is amazing. Thank you and keep it up!

Oldschool The magic of holding in your hands, a solid piece of adventure. One, where you slowly turn the pages with unbridled anticipation to read that final paragraph. One, where the aroma of a printed page invokes memories from long ago. One, where you are transported to magical, mysterious destinations, and even places in your own backyard. As my sunsets come quicker and my days grow shorter, I can look back on my past issues and they come alive again as if for the first time. My only regret is that as soon as my copy hits the front porch, I devour it in one sitting. Alas, short-term memory comes in handy at this point because I have 29 other issues to devour.
