I spend a lot of time thinking about where to go and what to do. How to find something that’s peaceful and challenging, real and exposed, not yet discovered or at least not yet crowded. Something that allows me to connect with nature in a way that’s fully in the moment in the flow of doing something.

Adventure Journal gives me the ideas, the places, and the stories of people who do the same. It is a unique pursuit of the uncomfortable, of the open spaces, and of the necessary exertion to get there and experience it. This outdoor experience is the forgotten suffering that was never really relevant even at its worst.

Adventure Journal has the authenticity of the stories, the uniqueness of the places and the accessibility for everyone. It isn’t Alpinist, which is just again and again the most impossible route and the most dangerous thing to do. It certainly isn’t the sold-out commercialized Instagram experience.

It is what I’m looking for: the stories that resonate with dirtbag climbers, thru hikers, and winter explorers.

If I’m not out there hearing a new story around a campfire, at least I can read one in Adventure Journal

For two decades, Outside magazine fueled my hunger for stories of human endeavor at the edge of possibility. When that publication drifted toward NFTs and the "Outerverse" and away from substantive narrative, I sought something worthy of the tradition. That's when Adventure Journal entered my life.

From the first issue, AJ rekindled what I'd been missing: chronicles of remarkable individuals pursuing the audacious, the improbable, the gloriously unreasonable. These are the stories that remind us why we venture beyond comfort in the first place.

The magazine itself carries physical weight that mirrors the gravitas of its contents. This is journalism built to endure, not disposable listicles and gear reviews, but considered writing that rewards deep engagement. Each issue invites contemplation rather than consumption. When you've absorbed what Adventure Journal offers, you won't discard it. You'll pass it to someone who needs reminding that there are still publications worth savoring, still stories that deserve to live beyond the screen. This is a magazine that belongs on shelves and in shared spaces, circulating among those who understand that the best adventure writing doesn't just document exploits; it elevates them into something resonant and lasting.

Outdoor, physical, beautiful journalism at its finest. Each issue comes with awe-inspiring stories, photos, recipes, book recommendations, and more. I cannot stop recommending it to others. Also, they are timeless and make great gifts for others.

Great magazine- I always look forward to a new issue. Best thing I’ve found in print magazines for quite a while, possibly ever. Well worth the cost, really excellent photos and articles.

There is only one subscription which I never throw out old issues! AJ
I’ll go back and re-read issues years later.
My wife knows I’m not much of a conversationalist when a new AJ arrives!

Always refreshing. Great perspectives on such a wide variety of themes, and with almost no advertising and no promotional content. AJ tends to come up often when I talk with friends, and always beckons me to get out and get closer to what matters: our relationships and nature.

Been a subscriber since issue 6 and am always excited when the new issue is delivered. The stories are unique and unexpected, a welcome break from some of the same old, same old outdoor industry storytelling. AJ has been an escape from city life when and were I spend less time outside adventuring that I would like.

Adventure Journal has exposed me to stories and writers and photographers and artists and places I would never have known about otherwise. I can't wait for the next issue.

Wonder if there’s still an analog world out there somewhere?
AJ are your people!
The excitement, wonder and magic of the outdoors is all here, shared by people who all feel the same way and search for the same things you do. Turn the page and unplug…

Unreal. This is by far and away the greatest publication to which I've ever subscribed. 38 issues in and there hasn't been an article that's disappointed. Infinitely interesting. Great book recs. Yummy recipes. Mind blowing photos. And witty and intelligent writing. What more could you ask for?
