Portfolio: The Treasure Is In the Details

It is impossible to approach Dave Reddick’s photo work without considering his time spent as the director of photography for Powder magazine: twenty-eight years, more than half his life, making him the longest-serving Powder photo editor by orders of magnitude. This matters not just because it helps define Reddick, but because for its nearly five-decade existence, Powder developed, nurtured, and published the best skiing photography in the world.

Or that is to say, Reddick did. Powder always had a small staff, but as the magazine became corporate for the first time in 1998 and then changed owners seemingly every couple of years, the crew shrank, while pressure increased to compromise artistically and financially. Many hands went into the making of the publication, but Reddick provided continuity, deep cultural knowledge, and, most important, fidelity to an authentic ski experience conveyed through the highest level of photography.
