Climbing Is Pointless

So is hiking. So is camping. So is skiing, surfing, rafting, catch and release fishing, trail running, mountain biking. And that’s what makes those things so worth doing. I’m not saying it’s okay they’re pointless, because they’re fun. I’m saying doing things without purpose is good. We get far too caught up in being productive and goal-oriented. Doing things that serve absolutely no purpose is healthy. We should all do way more of it. 

This short film from Mountain Hardware gets to the meat of that idea. Not as philosophically as it could, maybe, but well, it’s a brand selling you gear after all. Climbing a rock? Or heck, just part of a rock? Why bother? Why devote a life to that?
