When the Family Business Is Caring for the French Alps' Oldest Hut

Le Refuge de la Charpoua, near Chamonix, is 119 years old and currently enjoying its last winter of service in its current form. The original hut will be torn down and rebuilt in the summer of 2023, strengthened for many more decades of refuge. For Sarah Cartier, who has worked as the hut keeper for 8 years, and her two children, the hut is a refuge from the insanity of the modern world far below.
