Gunnar Gunnarsson’s Icelandic parents raised him in Denmark. No shade on Denmark, but, really, Mom? Really, Dad? As a kid, he longed for Iceland, longed for its sweeping winds and temperamental weather, but he stuck to a traditional path, attending college and earning a master’s degree in accounting and auditing, followed by a good job at PricewaterhouseCoopers in Copenhagen. But Gunnarsson discovered there’s more to life than a good job. Struggling with undiagnosed ADHD and wrestling with grinding office work, Gunnarsson in his late twenties bailed on corporate life and moved from Denmark to his family homeland.
Photography was a salve, and it gave him a practical reason to venture deeper into the Icelandic mountains that called to him, to stay out in the wildest storms. On social media, he found an audience for his work, and soon both creativity and success blossomed.
