About Adventure Journal

An independent print magazine about wilderness, exploration, and the natural world. Ten years. Forty-one issues.

Hi. I'm Stephen Casimiro, founder and editor of Adventure Journal. AJ started as my blog back in 2008, when I was working with National Geographic Adventure, and it quickly grew, ultimately maturing into a beautiful printed quarterly, launched in 2016.

The seed for AJ was planted long ago, first on camping trips as a kid and then in my late teens and twenties, when skiing, mountain biking, and climbing set my path. Most of the good and wonderful things in my life came from following my heart into wild places. Adventures make us stronger, wiser, humbler, and more resilient. They're also a hell of a lot of fun. Adventure creates our best selves, living our best lives.

That's what AJ's all about

The deeper you get, the deeper you get.

How we operate
Independent
AJ is owned by Stephen and Joni Casimiro. We have never taken outside investment and are accountable to our subscribers above all.
Readers first
We limit ad pages by design. Fewer ads means a better reading experience — and a more honest relationship with the people who buy the magazine.
Fair contracts
We pay fair market rates and our contributor contracts respect the rights of writers and photographers. The work belongs to its creators.
Sustainable production
Printed on certified-sustainable 70lb uncoated paper with soy ink. Our operations run primarily on solar. We ship in plain brown envelopes.
