Why should I subscribe?
Because we think AJ is amazing? Um, okay, also because subscribers get their copies first and it’s the most cost-effective way to get the journals. We discount the price 20 percent and pay for shipping. It’s our best deal.
Why can’t my subscription begin with the current issue?
Journals go from the printer to the bindery to the mailing and fulfillment service to the postal service. This lengthy process allows us to do only one subscription mailing per issue.
When do I get my issue? How long does it take to arrive?
Adventure Journal is intended to be delivered to U.S. subscribers around the second week at the beginning of the first month of each season (January, March, June, September). The big variable is the US Postal Service, which can take up to four weeks for domestic deliveries and eight weeks for international.
What happens if I don’t receive my issue?
We’ll replace it. We just ask that you allow the Postal Service their allotted window.

BUYING COPIES DIRECTLY THROUGH AJ
Most magazines cost just a few bucks. Why is AJ so expensive?
The cost of traditional magazines is subsidized by advertisers—publishers typically price their magazines extremely low in order to build massive circulation so they can charge higher ad rates. This makes them more indebted to advertisers than readers, and we think that’s out of balance.
The price of AJ reflects the true cost of production and of paying writers and photographers living wages. We write, design, and print Adventure Journal in the United States. Our paper stock is Forest Sustainability Council certified. The cover and body stock are thicker, which creates a premium journal but also increases costs throughout. We limit the number of advertising pages so you have a better reading experience and the advertisers have a more exclusive platform for their message.
When will I get my journal(s)?
AJ orders are typically processed the same day and also will be mailed the same day if received before 2 p.m. PST. Larger orders sent via Fedex will be sent same day if received by 4 p.m. Please keep in mind that we are a small crew, though, and there may be slight delays around weekends and holidays.
I didn’t receive my order. Now what?
Oh, rats! Please let us know through our contact page. All domestic orders are trackable via USPS or Fedex.
Why does AJ charge so much for postage?
Oi. The domestic and international postage services are the bane of our existence. We charge what the postal services charge us, within a few pennies. Yes, it really does cost 17 bucks to send one journal to Australia. We do not pad our fees with handling or materials charges, and if we have AJ stickers in stock we give you a few for free.

Aw, c’mon, really? Doesn’t advertising influence editorial?
Nope. AJ’s most valuable asset is your trust in us. Our editorial cannot be bought.
What about affiliate sales?
Some of the products mentioned or reviewed on AJ may have affiliate links, which pay us a small percentage if purchased. That money goes directly back into our production and does not influence what we cover, what we say, or how we say it. Again, if you don’t trust us to express our views truth-fully, there’s no point.
