Beginning as a small film festival 17 years ago, the Kendal Mountain Festival has expanded into over 100 screenings, a literature festival with over 40 speakers, a children’s literature component, an outdoor photography competition, and a massive array of presentations centered around adventure and film. Attendees number in the thousands over the 4-day event, and infuse over $2.9 million into the local economy.
It’s prominence is due in no small part to the exceptional content and films, and also the fact that it’s a family-friendly event. The focus is inspiration and exploration for all. Wildlife films show next to cultural explorations. And of course, there’s no shortage of sport-specific action for the ‘core’ set.
The festival is held in Kendal, England, just outside of the Lake District of Cumbria, and about five hours north of London.
