For every other day of the winter, riding bikes on the famous Birkie Trail System, in Cable, Wisconsin, is verboten. But for two glorious days in March, the world-class groomers prep the trails for fat bikes to have free rein.
Riders can choose to race the 47K Big Fat race or the 21K Chico race. Friday, March 8, 2019, is designated for pre-riding the course. The actual races will be held on March 9.
While the competition is stiff, the mood remains quite festive. We’re talking northern Wisconsin with springtime around the corner. In other words, expect a friendly atmosphere and no shortage of cold beer. In conjunction with the event, the Fat Bike Birkie Expo will have bikes and gear to demo.
This event is growing fast and has a limit of 1,200 participants. Registration is open now for the 2019 race. It will open in May for the following year’s race.
