Evergreen Grinder
December 8, 2018

The Evergreen Grinder started in 2017 to counter the grey sky, drizzly, energy suck of the Northwest winters. Of course, a bike ride has no sway over the the weather. But when frigid air, gloomy skies, and the siren song of one more cup of coffee transpire to keep us firmly rooted on the couch, sometimes we need a goal to get us in the saddle.

The century through and around the Capitol State Forest was created to serve as that motivation.

Last year, 13 riders began the 100-mile ride, and 12 finished. This year, interest has bloomed enough to add a 50-mile option to the docket. It’s a gravel grinder, so no official word on the courses will be released until the morning of (or night before). But you can bank on somewhere in the region of 10,000 feet of climbing and the crisp, misty air of western Washington.
