From Molly Booth and Chris Morgan, “Descent of the Refuge,” brings awareness to protecting the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in northeast Alaska through the story of three friends on a backcountry skiing expedition around the Okpilak Watershed and their journey across the Arctic Refuge coastal plain. – The filmmakers
The Biden Administration has imposed a moratorium on oil and gas drilling in ANWR; early this year, the Trump Administration’s lease sale period in the refuge was a massive bust. Yet there are still plenty of advocates for opening the area for resource extraction. As long as fossil fuels are a major part of the economy, the area will be a political football. But as fossil fuels lose significance, ANWR will cease to exist in the minds of many. Which is just as the wildlife there would want.
