Do Sailors Really Need to Take Warning of a Red Sky in Morning?

Yeah, for the most part. This bit of ancient maritime wisdom originated in the Bible, but would be known to any seafarer who spent lots of time puttering the seas around the planet’s middle latitudes, which is pretty much 99% of all people who’ve ever sailed. As storms move from west to east typically, the sun’s rays in the morning reflect off the approaching cloud systems, glowing red.

But what about other well-known weather sayings?

The Washington Post recently put together a short guide to the relative fact or fiction of seven such weather observations. The red sky morning warning checks out, but what about aching joints indicating a storm, or lighting striking twice?

Check out their list, right here.
