Reports are that President-elect Biden will tap New Mexico congresswoman Deb Haaland to head the Department of Interior in his forthcoming administration. Haaland would, not surprisingly, usher in a totally new direction for Interior as she told Reuters that her focus would be on expanding renewable energy production on federal lands, while undoing Trump’s ramping up of fossil fuel extraction.

Biden has yet to make an official statement, with some sources suggesting he may still be wary of losing a Democratic member of congress, though sources close to Biden say he’s made up his mind and will announce Haaland soon.

She’d be the first Native American member of a presidential cabinet.

More as the story develops.
