Interior Department Promotes Trump One Week Before Election
2020, you still keep surprising us, and not in a good way. With just one week to go before the presidential election, the U.S. Department of Interior has taken the shocking and dubious step of promoting the Trump administration’s “conservation record” on its social media channels. (This public domain video was posted to Interior’s Instagram account.) Yes, that’s in air quotes, because despite signing the Great American Outdoors Act (which came from Congress, not the White House), this is the administration that has rolled back or in the processing of rolling back nearly 100 major environmental laws or rules.
The Hatch Act prohibits political activity in the course of public duties. It’s one thing to tout DOI’s efforts, it’s another to tout Trump’s with seven days until the final votes are cast.
