You may remember we ran a poll question about six months ago asking whether or not a planned increase in whaling would discourage you from visiting Iceland. Overwhelmingly, you responded that whaling would in fact cause you to rethink a trip to Iceland—60 percent said you didn’t want tourism dollars going to a country supporting the industry. Well, this year, you’re in luck: Commercial whalers have called off the hunt. Whalers have claimed their permits arrived too late, but whale watching is soaring as a tourist draw in the island nation, and tourists, as you’ve shown, increasingly are put off by the practice.
