We were already fans of Mountainsmith’s Tour Lumbar pack, a combination lumbar pack (read: fanny pack), small backpack, with a thick hip belt as well as a shoulder sling. It’s a terrific pack for carrying a good amount of gear for a long hike or ride, while keeping your arms and shoulders free to move in a full range of motion. Now, they’ve added a waterproof version called the Dry Tour. It’s everything the Tour is, just with a tough TPU-coated nylon exterior and strong waterproof zippers for the main, top, and hipbelt pockets. We’ve blasted it with a hose, dropped it in the ocean, and left it in the rain—contents always stayed dry. See the above review of the regular Tour for a full breakdown, but this waterproof version is an angler’s dream and works very well on rainy mountain bike rides. $180 • BUY
