Couple catches here. First, obviously this Aussie startup is in Australia only. Second, they’re in crowdfunding mode, so you cannot yet drive an iconic E-Rover. But the idea is so cool, we just had to share it. Jaunt, a startup with a green heart, plans to convert old (read: vintage) 4x4s across Australia into electric-powered vehicles that people can rent out for backcountry adventures. A day, a week, a month, whatever. A silent electric motor can power the original drive components, and Tesla battery packs will supply the juice. No idea really whether this will actually work or not, but freaking droolworthy old Land Rovers silent except for the crunch of gravel beneath the tires and birds in the trees sounds pretty great. This is an idea that will likely catch on somewhere, even if not with Jaunt.
