The Great Lakes are already an unusual enough surf destination that films about the place don’t really need a hookier hook than that. But this little number, The Bloom Lagoon, finds a novel way to feature some surprisingly good freshwater surf with a fictional premise. In the future, the lakes are too choked with algae to surf, so the protagonist travels back in time to hit the lakes before pollution did. A little nod to the environmental present and a whole lot of unusual lake waves in a fun, tight package.
