I’ve heard of the Omelette Guy before, a retired man named Carl Springer famous for cooking free food along the Appalachian Trail near Mt. Cube in New Hampshire, but until this video, had never seen footage of him. During the summer, Carl sets up a huge spread of juice, eggs, fruit, and omelettes trailside and prepares whatever hikers ask of him. If hikers try to donate money, he asks them instead to give to a charity organization. Carl heard about “trail magic” along the AT years ago and decided he’d like to be part of it, at first bringing candy and maybe some cold beers, but soon upgrading to a be essentially a short order cook. This charming video shows Carl in full magic man mode, a staple of the AT.
