If you’ve ever stared slackjawed at an Instagram image of a tent perched precariously on the tip of a cliff overlooking a fjord, a campsite too precious to possibly be real, and said to yourself — there’s no way those people camped there — then you’re going to love @youdidnotsleepthere. It’s an Instagram account run by a woman from Oregon, with a terrific sense of humor, clearly, named Luisa Jeffery. During a camping trip to the Grand Canyon a few years back, a friend prompted Jeffery to move their tent to more photogenic spots so their photos would really zing on Instagram.

Poof, the idea for an account that mocks—ever so gently—staged camping photos was born.

Jeffery’s been running it now since 2015, and it just keeps getting funnier. The account has grown so popular Jeffery is no longer forced to scour ambitious Instagram accounts; she’s tagged in so many of these kinds of shots she can just sit back and curate. And laugh.

And sure, sometimes people did actually sleep there, as they’ll point out to Jeffery, occasionally in angry comments. But that doesn’t make the clichés any less funny.
