On Days Like This We Must Surf

This short film explores the mystery of how the lousiest waves can produce the most stoked surfers.

“Here on the lakes, we surf in the worst possible conditions,” said Toronto surfer Antonio Leonard. “We surf in conditions that most ocean surfers wouldn’t even paddle out.”

What is it about crappy conditions that breeds the most die-hard participants? You want to see core, just watch this short profile on Larry Cavero, who’s the ringleader of a rapid group of Great Lakes surfers. Cavero is one of those guys that oozes stoke, who doesn’t shame you into staying out until your arms are too tired to do more than drag across the surface—he inspires.

The film (below) is fun, energetic, and beautifully shot. Production stills are by Jordan Fritz.
