At $900 a night if you’re traveling solo, $1,500 if you’re a couple, this new floating cabin off the coast of Zanzibar isn’t for the typical adventurer, but taken strictly on its own merits as a structure – wow. The latest offering from Manta Resort off Pemba Island is three stories, one beneath the waves, one at dock level, and a penthouse for sunbathing or backflipping or shooting skeet or whatever it is that that the .01 percenters do.

Weekend Cabin isn’t necessarily about the weekend, or cabins. It’s about the longing for a sense of place, for shelter set in a landscape…for something that speaks to refuge and distance from the everyday. Nostalgic and wistful, it’s about how people create structure in ways to consider the earth and sky and their place in them. It’s not concerned with ownership or real estate, but what people build to fulfill their dreams of escape. The very time-shortened notion of “weekend” reminds that it’s a temporary respite. When solitude refuge gets too populated on land then one has to go on the sea, until that gets populated. Any how, nice concept. You have your own salt water aquarium all around you or the fishes have a terrarium they can look at.
What is the inside classified or something? Can’t find interior pictures of this anywhere…geez.
This is beautiful. Love the underwater feature.
