Erin Langworthy wasn’t expecting the bungee to break when she dove off the platform above the Zambezi River in Zimbabwe near Victoria Falls on New Year’s Eve day, but she handled it with typical Aussie aplomb. The drop off Victoria Falls Bridge is approximately 365 feet, and Langworthy was about 60 feet above the water when her cord snapped. After being stunned by the fall, with her legs still tied and being swept down the river, she had the wherewithal to swim to the bank and save herself.
The 22-year-old from Perth spent a week in the hospital but didn’t report any serious injuries.
Meanwhile, Victoria Falls Bungee’s website is still claiming “17 years of safe bungee jumping operations.”
