How Fast Does Fire Move? THIS Fast

They don’t call it wild fire for nothing. Bastrop State Park in Texas is 6,000 acres; the recent fires burned 5,900 of those acres. Firefighters were able to save many of the Civilian Conservation Corps cabins that were built in the mid-20th Century, but otherwise…up in smoke. This video released by the Texas Parks & Wildlife agency is strangely beautiful, like some orchestrated bit of art, but it’s the real thing, and it gives a small sense of just how quickly flames can scorch an area.

That is both terrifying and awe-inspiring.

I live and play in Texas. This is only one of about 30,000 fires this season. Many people have lost homes and some have lost lives. We are under extreme drought to the point it’s affecting our water supply. We need rain and soon. Thank you for posting this video. It is strangely beautiful.
