Terje Sorgjerd is the Norwegian photographer who shot the incredible time lapse of northern lights near the convergence of Finland, Russia, and Norway, and now he’s outdone himself with a stunning collection of shots from Tenerife, in the Canary Islands off the coast of Africa. Coastal Tenerife feels like any other stretch of European beach, but when you climb far above the ocean to the flanks of the volcano El Teide it becomes another world.
This is a must-watch film. Pay close attention near the :30 mark. As Sorgjerd explains:
“A large sandstorm hit the Sahara Desert on the 9th April and at approx 3am in the night the sandstorm hit me, making it nearly impossible to see the sky with my own eyes.
“Interestingly enough my camera was set for a 5 hour sequence of the milky way during this time and I was sure my whole scene was ruined. To my surprise, my camera had managed to capture the sandstorm which was backlit by Grand Canary Island making it look like golden clouds. The Milky Way was shining through the clouds, making the stars sparkle in an interesting way.”

OK well that was just amazing.
thrilling, too bad it appears to have been so thoroughly denuded by civilization.
wow, just wow!!
Love it, what is the song playing in the background?
Denuded? I’m not sure how you come to that conclusion. I’ve climbed Teide and it’s a pumice-y volcanic cone. There’s a small tram to the top, a few observatories, and that’s it for the hand of man. The vast majority of the population of Tenerife lives along the coastal strip. The towns that are located in the mountains are nestled and have fairly low footprints. If Teide is nude, mother nature did the stripping.
The song is “Nuvole Bianche” by Ludovico Einaudi. http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/una-mattina/id217799399
Stunning video. What is the music?
Probably the most beautiful video I have ever seen.
I believe in God.
